Lowell's Restaurant Seattle

Lowell’s welcomes all buskers to sing the song they have to sing! This is a new one…

Over the decades buskers come and buskers go. Everyone from classical violinists, a cappella groups of all generes, troubadours, bluegrass clog dancing fiddlers and everything in between. Music warms the soul, and buskers (street musicians) have a special place in Pike Place Market’s soul where we provide many corners, nooks and crannies for all the different personalities. We also get to know some very interesting musicians.

This is a new busker thats been playing around the market recently, and unique he is, from the construction bright clothing to his heartfelt delivery of lyrics comprised of vignettes from “his” life…

When I walked by and heard him singing about “…I was coming through the tunnel of the I-90 freeway, having to stop and adjust my headlights…” I had to stop and think what an amazingly different community of all persuasions Pike Place Market is, to give allowance for such unique individuality. Maybe he’s not headed for fame, or Beneroya Hall or even a stage larger than the curb out front on the cobblestones here in the market. BUT, he did get an audience and he does get to sing whats on his mind and important to him and who can argue with that?

Singing the song I want to sing while you sing the song you want to sing!

Singing the song I want to sing while you sing the song you want to sing!

Lowell’s supports equality, love, peace and personal ownership of self!

Eventually, and soon, Marriage Equality will be as common as the most "All-American" breakfast nationwide, Bacon & Eggs. Lowell's welcomes everyone with open arms, love, peace and pride.

Eventually, and soon, Marriage Equality will be as common as the most “All-American” breakfast nationwide, Bacon & Eggs. Lowell’s welcomes everyone with open arms, love, peace and pride.

When our guest’s don’t think twice about ordering their bacon & eggs in the morning, there is subliminal consciousness at work hardwired within their brains. They found something they love, accept it without thinking twice, and their day begins. A simple plate of bacon & eggs.

As with innumerable actions in our lives, there are no cognitive decisions to make when we choose the most oblique and common decisions of our days. I believe ALL people in America, of “sound mind and body” are hardwired to want to help others, seek social groups as a means of joy & communication over anger and hate, and to want happiness for all members of their families and friends.

To “fear” being threatened by external forces beyond our control is also hardwired in as a survival instinct, and “fight or flight” a natural reaction requiring no decision making in the face of REAL danger. The danger of hurt, exclusion, impending disaster and being alone, to name a few.

I believe it is inevitable that the Marriage Equality Act will become an accepted norm; as accepted as the unconscious ease with which we do something as simple as ordering a plate of bacon and eggs. There is just no threat contained within love and acceptance.

There may be insecurity, there may be fear of rejection by peers ignorant of the facts, and there may be a belief structure passed down by parents and family that supersedes an individual’s ability to decide for them what threatens the beliefs that they OWN, as opposed to the beliefs of others that they FOLLOW.

Standing up for our OWN beliefs, and not the beliefs of those that exert energy to oppose what another human wants or needs, in order to fulfill their OWN life and happiness, is a strong statement of individuality when one opposes those close to them in order to “fit in” with their OWN circle.

The simple action of endorsing that ALL individuals are accorded the same rights, to live happy fulfilled lives of love and peace and happiness, should be as hardwired into ourselves as the simplicity of ordering breakfast. You don’t have to follow my decision, and why would I care about yours, you OWN it.

Stand up for yourself and refrain from fearing the reactions of those intolerant of YOUR life, that YOU are lucky enough to have, living in an American society founded on the rights of all. Read the paper and understand we have immeasurable rights that the rest of the world can only dream of having.

The ability to live our OWN lives, find love, without fleeing the persecution of other’s that are afraid to stand behind their OWN life choices, that we find no reason to fear. Pursue peace, own up, and stand on our OWN two feet while enjoying freedom accorded ALL.

My breakfast option is maybe different from yours; do you care what I order? Why on Earth would you, it’s MY breakfast, enjoy YOURS, YOU decided for yourself, and I was able to decide for me!

“Unsung Hero” tribute album honors Lowell’s regular, Ron Davies. Buy it, listen & love!

Longtime friend, super talented songwriter, musician & humble troubadour Ron Davies passed away back in 2003. Truly an unsung hero, Mr. Davies often hid away window side and penned poetry and songs while gazing across the water at the Olympic Mountains in the distance.

Ron is fondly remembered by those regulars of ours and long time staff as a gentle soul always unassuming while focused on his craft.

Put Mr. Davies in the same, special and treasured natural state of consciousness reserved for very few we’ve ever come across, a handful really, those that focus on their perception of individual realty while avoiding the trappings of ego so many are ensnared in.

Like another similarly unique songwriter/musician, Townes Van Zandt, I hope they are playing music out amongst the surreal rockscapes of Joshua Tree National Monument, exuding the magic of unique formations between heaven and earth represented by those magnificent stone escarpments.

To any and all that have not had the pleasure of being exposed to a true “Unsung Hero” get this “album” (CD, download, etc.) and listen, then listen again. We were lucky to have our encounters with the man, you should take some life-moments and familiarize yourself with his talent; life rarely recognizes the unbelievable rarities living beside us (as they don’t blast ego across the landscape) but release their talent for other’s to be recognized for and thus pass under our radar.

Again, stop & listen up folks, real treasures are as fleeting and rare as the clouds above us, not the glitter of gold and platinum that so many others coveted. Those that pay tribute on this album “get it” and are also treasures among us, thank you so much for a reminder ten years later.

~ Peace, love, truth and thanks Mr. Davies.Ron Davies Tribute

Lowell’s Sunset 3/7/2013…

Sitting by the windows with a Jameson’s Irish Whisky (10 days until St. Patrick’s Day!) and a Guinness Stout, a bowl of rich, garlicy fresh Manila clams and friends. The reflections of the inside of our third floor walls with the ferris wheel, port of Seattle lights and the deep blue sky made for a perfect evening of cheer!
